COVID-19 update 23rd March 2020

Kia ora, Kia orana and Warmest greetings,

Thank you to all of you who are following the government restrictions and keeping your children at home if they are sick or are in the Risk categories identified by the government.  We encourage you to continue to do so and to take COVID-19 seriously.  We are of course still following the guidance from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health about remaining open.
As a school we have assessed our situation here this morning once we have seen how many students have arrived at school and have put the following in place:
1. All Senior classes with their teachers at school will be taught by them.
2. Senior classes whose teachers are working from home have put work on Google Classroom and students will be supervised while they complete this work.
3. Junior (Year 9 and 10) classes have been combined and students will be working on subjects with teachers that may not be their usual teachers at different times of the day.
4.  We encourage all students to regularly check their school email accounts.
We have been informed that the following bus routes have been stopped for the time being as there are no drivers:
  • Mangakino
  • Tokoroa HS to FVHS
  • Jack Henry Road
These buses will take the students home today.
As from 24 March there will be no STP / Trades courses. Provisions are being made for students to begin online learning - we will communicate this information to you as soon as we have the details.
We are aware that there is a range of access to Google Classroom throughout our community with some students having their own devices, some only having a phone and some with no internet at home.  We encourage your students to do what they can if they are unable to attend school.
We are aware there will be some anxiety around NCEA achievement, please leave us to worry about that and know we dont want your students to be disadvantaged and will work with them and NZQA on this.
We are now no longer issuing Library books.  Returns are to be left in the trolley inside the Library and we encourage students not to touch other books in the trolley or on the shelves.
Books are available online through ePlatform - download the app from your app store.  Find our Library from the list and login using your Library ID.  Students are able to borrow an eBook to read on their device.
Please note we have today not allowed visitors into our school as they did not meet the signing in criteria and we are being vigilant in ensuring all of our staff who fall into the Risk categories do not attend school and those we are concerned about due to contact with others are not around our students.
We will continue to ensure that the extra cleaning of door handles, chrome books and all surfaces will continue along with a stepped up cleaning programme through our after school cleaners.
Please know we are taking COVID-19 seriously and will continue to escalate our response as required.

Principal
